One Take

Last night I caught up with Russian Ark, the 2002 film made in one 90-minute take in the Hermitage with a huge cast, some 2000 extras, who depicted centuries of Russian history partly with reference to the paintings on the walls of the various rooms through which the camera passed in that time.

Impressive but ineffective, it did not inform one very much about all that happened across hundreds of years; one had to bring knowledge to bear upon it.

As such it was a diversion, but not a match for Hitchcock's version of Rope.
