Yesterday's Boxing Day stroll included a sighting of a greengrocer's box of bananas with the sign "help yourself" - and, with which, I found that by dint of peeling them and cutting into inch-long pieces, these can be put on a tray in the freexer, where, covered, they keep some while.
Why had I not known this before?
And, of course, there is an abundance of skin to keep the composter happy.
